Groomer & Equipment Operator; Snow Making Supervisor
Department: Outdoor Operations
Reports to: Outdoor Operations Manager
Summary: Groomer/equipment operator;Snow making Supervisors will be responsible to give direction and support the snow making team. They are expected to provide updates to the Outdoor operations manager, regarding construction and maintenance of all Skiable terrain. This position will be responsible to operate all equipment in a safe manner, using the techniques that are essential to maintaining skiable terrain at Searchmont Resort, on time and to the highest standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Groom all Skiable terrain to a high standard; must meet tight deadlines.
- Monitor and assist snow making staff to advise where snow will be needed to minimize large amounts of snow in one spot.
- Operate in challenging situations including changing weather/conditions and working around physical structures.
- Perform pre-shift circle checks and paperwork – post shift duties including house keeping duties and mandatory paperwork.
- Recognize and report equipment issues and property damage.
- Recognize and report or repair potential safety issues including but not limited to lighting, signage, padding, poor skiing conditions and boarding surfaces.
- Maintain a good working relationship and open communication with snowmaking, slope maintenance, patrol, and any other outdoor staff.
- Communicate regularly with Outdoor Operations Manager
- All other duties as assigned.
- Must complete all job specific training and orientation prior to being scheduled.
Additional Duties:
Due to the many variables that impact our winter resort operations, such as weather and the number of guest visits, occasionally employees may be asked to perform other duties or to assist in efforts outside their primary area of responsibility as needed. Training Employees; Planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving obstacles.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervising employees on the snow making team. Carrying out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Searchmont Resort’s policies, procedures and applicable laws.
Qualifications:
- Snow making and Grooming experience an asset.
- Able to work independently as well as supervise staff.
- Demonstrates quality written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Mechanical skills an asset
- Work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
- Positive attitude, professional manner and appearance
- Valid G License

Working Conditions:
This is a winter resort area. It requires that work venues are varied and, in many cases, include steep stairways, multi-level buildings and outdoor work areas; Subject to cold/hot/wet. Some facilities are located at the base of the mountain, where others are semi-remote. Some work areas can only be reached by traveling via chairlift, snowmachine, atv, skis or snowboards. Walking surfaces are frequently frozen, sloped and slippery. Proper layers of warm clothing, with an outer layer that is wind-resistant and appropriate footwear is mandatory. Workdays and hours will vary, with an emphasis on weekends and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; use of hands, reaching, climbing, balancing, communicating and listening. May be required to stand, kneel, crouch or crawl to successfully complete tasks. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this position includes Distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.

Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Department: Outdoor Operations
Reports to: Outdoor Operations Manager
Summary: Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance of all equipment on site, maintaining shop inventory, and shop safety. They will be Required to weld and on occasion operate heavy equipment to assist in slope maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintenance of all equipment on site
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs
- Performing outdoor duties as required
- Maintain all logbooks and paperwork as needed.
- Communicate regularly with Outdoor Operations Manager
- All other duties as assigned.
- Must complete all job specific training and orientation prior to being scheduled.
Additional Duties :

Snow maker
Department: Outdoor Operations
Reports to: Snow making supervisor.
Summary: Snowmakers will be responsible for placement and efficient operation of snowmaking guns and equipment in order to product the highest quality snow for our guests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transportation and connecting snow guns.
- Operate snow guns and equipment at highest efficiency and quality.
- Safe operation of all snowmaking equipment as per Searchmont resort snowmaking training
- Safe operation of ATV and snowmobiles
- Maintain all logbooks and paperwork as needed.
- Communicate regularly with Snowmaking supervisor.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Must complete all job specific training and orientation prior to being scheduled.

Searchmont Snowschool is seeking enthusiastic, energetic, kind-hearted individuals to join our resort in providing excellent ski and snowboard instruction on beginner and intermediate levels. Join our team as either an apprentice, ready to learn and to help our experienced and certified instructors, or as an already certified CASI/CSIA instructor.
Apprentices will be coached in the invaluable task of assisting instructors and students in group settings. Ski and Snowboard Level 1 certification will be offered throughout the season for those wishing to upgrade their training.
